Modern Changes in St. Petersburg Climate and Atmospheric Circulation Variations

A. I. Ugryumov and N. V. Khar’kova

A teleconnection is analyzed which exists between long-term variations of temperature and precipitation in St. Petersburg in March and April and North Atlantic and European atmospheric zonal circulation during the 20th century. It is shown that current climate warming in the region is almost entirely explained by a significant enhancement of warm advection of Atlantic air onto the continent.
