Polychlorinated Biphenyls and Organochlorine Pesticides in the Air-Soil System in the South of the Russian Far East

Presented are the results of observations of polychlorinated biphenyls and organochlorine pesticides in the air and soil in Khabarovsk and in the suburb of Vladivostok from autumn 2010 to autumn 2012. The obtained data are compared with concentrations in other regions of Russia and over the world. Considered is the redistribution of some congeners of and some s in the air-soil system. It is revealed that the sources of these substances in the air and soil of the Russian Far East are local emissions and transboundary atmospheric transport. It is computed that the climate change will lead to the shift of the flows in the air-soil system towards the increase in evaporation of some polychlorinated biphenyls and organochlorine pesticides from the soil surface by 6–10% if the surface air temperature rises by 1°C.
