SEASONAL EMISSION OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN A DRY YEAR FROM AN OLIGOTROPHIC BOG IN NORTHWESTERN RUSSIA

Results of measurements of CO2 emission from an oligotrophic bog Lammin-Suo in a period between snow melting and peat-soil freezing are considered. The CO2 emission in a dry year is equal to 317.4 g CO2/m2 per season. It is found that the active layer temperature is, under such conditions, a major factor that determines the CO2 emission. A relationship between CO2 emission and the surface peat soil temperature is derived. The main factor that determines the spatial variability of CO2 emission within a bog landscape is the location of its microrelief elements above the bog water level. The maximum spatial variability of CO2 emission is observed in complex microlandscapes with an oriented microrelief.
