REGIONAL TEMPERATURE/HUMIDITY SOUNDINGS OF THE ATMOSPHERE FROM THE NOAA-16 DATA

A processing package has been developed to retrieve the atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles from the ATOVS/NOAA-16 measurements of local area coverage. The basic algorighms of ATOVS data inversion are described, and the test of the developed system with the real ATOVS/NOAA-16 data for March-May 2001 was discussed. The accuracy characteristics of satellite temperature soundings are analyzed.
