CONCEPTUAL BASES OF USING RADAR AND HYDROPHYSICAL INFORMATION IN OPERATIONAL AND ENGINEERING HYDROLOGY

V. A. Shutov

Conceptual bases of using radar data on precipitation together with results of hydrophysical investigations of soils and ground in application to hydrological forecasts and calculations are formulated. Operations with matrices of the precipitation fields obtained by weather radar are described in details. A procedure is developed to calculate the runoff-producing precipitation index, which is used as a basic input parameter of the model of runoff formation for the purpose of operational hydrology. Approaches are proposed for improving methods of the probabilistic calculation of maximum modulus of rainfall runoff. In particular, several variants are proposed for taking into account statistics of precipitation fields in a normative method of limiting intensity developed for the calculation of runoff from small watersheds.
