The objectives of analysis are to study linear trends of annual extremes of surface temperature and precipitation over the Northern Hemisphere during the period from 1950 to 1995 using derived climate indices. The spatial statistical structure of the fields of the annual extremes is also analyzed. For graphic presentation and for objective comparison with numerical modeling results, station data are interpolated onto a regular grid. Station data are gridded after analysis of the statistical structure of the fields of annual extremes. Statistical significance of trends is estimated using a resampling procedure (bootstrap).
