DETERMINATION OF PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SEA ICE FROM SATELLITE IR SOUNDING DATA

Possibilities of determining sea ice thickness, consolidation, structural characteristics, snow cover, and heat conductivity from infrared aerospace sounding data are discussed. The paper presents the basics of theoretical model and technology of automated decoding of the informative part of satellite IR images and the results of practical evaluation of automated system in the Arctic seas.
