Location of the Gerkhozhansu River basin and a brief history of studying the mudslide phenomena are considered. Climate and weather conditions, suitable for the formation of mudslides, are considered. Five mudslides formed in one mudslide center within eight days are characterized. For the first time, a considerable dam in the Baksan River channel formed by torrent deposits is noted. The dam caused a flooding which badly damaged the town.
