A method for the assimilation of data on sea ice concentration in the NEMO–LIM3 multicategory sea ice model is presented for application in the operational technology of the ocean state diagnosis and forecasting. The method is based on the relaxation procedure for ice concentration in the sea ice model which is used along with the 3DVAR analysis for temperature and salinity of sea water in the ocean circulation model. The verification of the method based on data for 2011–2015 revealed that the assimilation of sea ice concentration brings model simulation of ice characteristics close to the observed values.
