V. V. Plotnikov, A. N. Chetyrbotskii, and T. V. Gordeichuk

The results of the analysis of the multiyear archive of ten-day observations of the state of ice cover in the Sea of Japan are considered. The sufficiency of the description of the state of ice cover is estimated with the help of traditionally used parameters: ice concentration, age, and forms. The character of distributions of principal ice cover parameters is analyzed. A close relation is revealed between the ice cover characteristics taken as independent. A conclusion is made that the ice information about the state of ice cover in the Sea of Japan is redundant.
