Zones of the Cold Intermediate Layer Formation and the Volume of Waters in the Black Sea Depending on Winter Severity

V. B. Titov

Two types of vertical hydrological structure of the active layer, namely, monolayer and two-layer, are identified. It is shown that the monolayer structure ia typical of zones of the cold intermediate layer (CIL) generation, while the active layer with the two-layer structure is beyond these zones. According to an indication of the monolayer structure, the CIL generation zones were identified and their areas and the volume waters during cold, normal (medium), and warm winters were estimated. The mean values of water temperature within the homogenous convective layer and minimum temperatures of the CIL were determined depending on the severity of winters.
