INDIRECT METHODS OF CALCULATION OF TOTAL PHOTOSYNTHETICALLY ACTIVE RADIATION FROM ACTINOMETRIC AND METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS

On the basis of continuous observations of total photosynthetically active radiation (PAR, 380—710 nm) carried out at the Meteorological Observatory of Moscow State University in 1980—2001, simple indirect methods have been developed for calculating PAR from total integral radiation (actinometric station observations) and sunshine duration (meteorological station observations). Information about possible and mean total PAR during the vegetation period with daily mean air temperatures above 5ºC is presented for 110 stations in the East European Plain. Analysis of the geographic PAR distribution in Russian forests has been performed.
