FORECAST ENSEMBLES: METHODS, PROBLEMS, AND PROSPECTS

Atmospheric predictability and dynamical system's sensitivity are discussed, which provide a methodological substantiation for ensemble prediction systems (EPS) for all forecast periods. A review of ensemble design and producing methods is given, as well as several EPS employment practices at world meteorological centers are mentioned.
