INTRAANNUAL AND INTERANNUAL VARIATIONS OF WATER STORAGE IN THE MOZHAISK RESERVOIR

The results of statistical analysis of the long-term changes in 18 characteristics of the water regime of the Mozhaisk reservoir over the 40-year period of its operation as a major source of water supply for Moscow are presented. It is found that the coefficient of variation of water storage in the reservoir is three times larger than that of water level in it and the trends in the interannual variations of the annual mean and maximum values of water storage in the reservoir and of water inflow to it are of opposite sign in the last twenty years of high water content. These trends are accompanied by an increasing number of phases of partial decrease and increase in the reservoir's useful capacity during the water management year. This fact has adverse hydrological and environmental consequences.
