INTERANNUAL VARIABILITY OF WATER CIRCULATION OF THE SEA OF OKHOTSK NEAR WEST KAMCHATKA IN SPRING

E. V. Samko, S. Yu. Glebova, and V. M. Petruk

The interannual variability of the West Kamchatka and Compensatory currents on the section along 55ºN in the spring of 1983—2002 is investigated using data of TINRO-Center research vessels. Several periods of different length are distinguished with direct or inverse dependencies between the water transports of these currents. It is shown that variations in the interaction of these currents are closely connected with reconstructions in the atmosphere, mainly with a change in circulation over the Sea of Okhotsk.
