VARIABILITY OF THE INTENSITY AND POSITION OF THE CYCLONIC CENTER OF ACTION IN THE ATLANTIC SECTOR OF THE SOUTHERN OCEAN IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20th CENTURY

I. V. Rozanova, E. I. Sarukhanyan, and N. P. Smirnov

The dynamics of the intensity and position of the South Atlantic atmospheric center of action is considered. It is shown that the intensity of the South Atlantic low is determined by the intensity of the zonal transport of air masses over the Southern Ocean. At periods of more than five years, a significant correlation between the intensity of this center and the North Atlantic Oscillation exists in all seasons except spring. No correlation with the Southern Oscillation was found.
