TOTAL EVAPORATION AND ITS VARIABILITY IN THE VOLGA BASIN

V. S. Golubev , N. A. Speranskaya, and K. V. Tsytsenko

The paper presents the results of calculations of total evaporation in the Volga basin for 1965—1990. Total evaporation is estimated on the basis of regime observations of evaporation from the water and land surfaces and information on the structure and dynamics of the underlying surface. It is shown that oppositely signed tendencies in fluctuations of the evaporation from the water and land and also changes in the quantitative characteristics of the underlying surface elements significantly smooth the interannual variability of total evaporation in the Volga basin. This work continues a series of publications on various aspects of this problem and is dedicated to the memory of V. Golubev who pioneered this research.
