EVALUATION OF THE ROLE OF THE WORLD OCEAN IN GLOBAL PURIFICATION OF THE ATMOSPHERE FROM POLLUTANTS

A. M. Abshaev and M. K. Zhekamukhov

Considered is a 2-D model on scavenging pollutants from the atmosphere due to turbulent diffusion when air masses move over the water surface. The total pollutant concentration in the moving air mass exponentially decreases with distance from the coastline. Analytical formulas are derived to estimate the amount of pollutants absorbed by the water surface and the portion of pollutants that irrevocably disappear outside the troposphere.
