MODELING OF DISPERSION OF PASSIVE CONTAMINANTS FROM A CONTINUOUS SOURCE OVER THE URBAN HEAT ISLAND

A. F. Kurbatskii and L. I. Kurbatskaya

The results of computer modeling of dispersion of a passive contaminant from a continuous superficial source over the urban heat island in the critical meteorological period (weak wind, stable stratification of the atmosphere, inversions) are presented. An Eulerian model of atmospheric diffusion is developed on the basis of the three-parametric theory of turbulent transport and includes the differential transport equations for average concentration and correlation between the turbulent fluctuations of concentration and temperature. The full explicit anisotropic algebraic mass flux model of the pollution is formulated. The numerical modeling results clearly show the penetration of a plume into the inversion above the mixed layer and gravitational propagation of the contaminant within the inversion.
