NUMERICAL MODELING OF WEATHER RESPONSE TO EL NINO IN SOUTH AMERICA AREA

B. D. Panin, R. P. Repinskaya, O. G. Aniskina, and S.V. Yamina

A numerical model of the tropical atmosphere, in which a boundary layer, eddy and microscale turbulence, large-scale condensation, dry and moist convection, precipitation evaporation, radiative heat transfer, and orography are param¬etrized, is developed. The model reproduces precipitation and circulation anomalies observed in the tropics over South America during the 1982—1983 El Nino event and identifies and studies a mechanism of formation of anomaly centers in pressure, wind, temperature, cloud, and precipitation fields.
