A BOTTOM STRATIFIED CURRENT IN THE ISTRA RESERVOIR

B. I. Samolyubov, M. E. Ardasheva, and R. P. Karpenko

Results of investigations of a bottom density current in the Istra reservoir are presented. The thermodynamic fields are thoroughly examined throughout the reservoir depth and length. Distributions of the current velocity, suspended matter, and dissolved salts and oxygen are studied. A mathematical model of a thermally stratified current and of the transport of suspended and dissolved admixtures by this current is tested. A hypothesis is proposed for the mechanism of penetration of the stratified current into a medium where the density of bottom water increases in the direction of motion.
