COMBINED USE OF RADAR AND STATION DATA FOR ANALYSIS OF CLOUD FIELDS

N. A. Kalinin and A. A. Smirnova

A procedure is proposed for determining cloud amount over an area of 400 × 400 km with a rare network of weather stations. It is based on assimilation of station data in coordinates of radar images by squares 25 ×25 km. Radar data are presented by the information from MRL-5 radar at the Aviation Meteorological Station Bol'shoe Savino (the town of Perm) with the help of automated meteorological radar complex (AMRC) Meteoyacheika for eight synoptic hours (00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00 and 21:00 UTC) in 1998—2000. The probability of detecting and identifying clouds for the area which includes the three subjects of the Russian Federation, i.e., the central and southern parts of the Perm region, Komi-Perm Autonomous Area, and southwest of the Sverdlovsk region, is under investigation.
