SYSTEM OF METEOROLOGICAL DATA PREPARATION FOR TRANSBOUNDARY POLLUTION TRANSPORT MODELS

K. G. Rubinshtein

A technology and basic principles of preparing meteorological data for transboundary atmospheric pollution transport models are described. The Diagnostic System of the lower Atmosphere state (SDA) has been developed at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia since 1993. The first version of the system (SDA-94) was used with success in the framework of the operating of the Meteorological Synthesizing Center E (East) for solving problems on transboundary pollution transport in the European region and within the extratropical part of the Northern Hemisphere. Presently, a new version of the system (SDA-99) is developed to enlarge a list of meteorological data and to improve their accuracy. Some characteristics of the atmosphere state obtained with the SDA-99 are compared with NCAR/NCEP reanalysis and GPCP data for 1996. The wind characteristics and precipitation from the compared meteorological data sets are shown to be close.
