THE OCEAN GENERAL CIRCULATION MODEL AS A COMPONENT OF THE MGO COUPLED GLOBAL CLIMATE MODEL

S. A. Fokin and V. M. Kattsov

A numerical model of the ocean general circulation is described. The model is aimed at studies of natural and anthropogenic climate variations both as a component of the MGO coupled climate model and as a separate model with a specified atmospheric forcing. Being conceptually simple and computationally efficient, the MGO ocean model describes the basic processes that determine a large-scale circulation of the World Ocean including the Arctic Basin. The finite-difference scheme of the ocean general circulation model takes into account specific features of the numerical realization of the MGO coupled model atmospheric and sea–ice components. Results of the model runs with a specified atmospheric forcing are discussed.
