THE RUSSIAN HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL CENTER'S SOIL—VEGETATION—ATMOSPHERIC SURFACE LAYER MODEL: ALGORITHM AND VALIDATION RESULTS

I. A. Rozinkina

The LAND model of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, designed for the simulation of land surface processes in the framework of the atmospheric general circulation model, is described and verified on Cabauw data. The results are compared with other similar models. Numerical experiments are conducted to estimate the model sensitivity to landscape characteristics, such as albedo, roughness length, green leaf fraction, fractional vegetation cover, root fraction in soil layers. The hourly, daily, monthly, and annual averages of the model temperature and heat fluxes in the atmospheric surface layer are shown to agree with observations within the accuracy of measurements. The model results are found to be most sensitive to variations of the fractional vegetation cover and green leaf fraction.
