PARAMETRIZATION OF PHYSICAL PROCESSES IN A NESTED-GRID ATMOSPHERIC MODEL

B. D. Panin, R. P. Repinskaya, and U Feng Lei

Results of modeling performed for the China territory and the adjacent areas by means of a diabatic nested-grid atmospheric model in the p-coordinate system are presented. Improved parametrizations of dry and moist convection and an “orographic blocking” method were realized in the model along with the method developed for a combined allowance for the effects of turbulence and orography within the atmospheric boundary layer. The effects were investigated caused by a relief smoothing. The methods of specifying the lateral boundary conditions for a nested model and damping noises in the near-boundary zones of the nested grid were estimated.
