THE EFFECT OF PUDDLES AND UNDERICE MELT WATERS ON THE CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER THROUGH THE ARCTIC SEA ICE

P. V. Bogorodskii and A. P. Nagurnyi

Based on the linear theory, the authors have calculated the boundaries of the stability of horizontal liquid layers having a thermal and hydrodynamic contact and separated with a porous partition which simulate the summer sea ice cover. The availability of the over- and underice melt water layers substantially speeds up the thawing, which is in a good agreement with the well-known facts.
