STATISTICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TROPICAL CYCLONES IN THE YEARS OF THEIR EXTREME FREQUENCIES

Statistical characteristics of tropical cyclones (TC) in the years of absolute global maximum (1971) and minimum (1999) of their annual occurrence over the last 30 years (1970–1999) are analyzed on the basis of the TC monitoring carried out at the Hydrometeorological Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation. Some specific features of TC structure have been found for the above years as the most significant ones with respect to the atmospheric circulation anomalies. Examples of unusual TC structure and tracks are presented.
