THERMAL REGIME OF THE MOSKVA RIVER RESERVOIRS

V. V. Puklakov and M. G. Grechushnikova

Based on the data of the 40-year (1961-2000) field studies, the thermal regime of the four major reservoirs of the Moskva River water system is analyzed. The specific features of the annual thermal regime are discussed with respect to their similarities and distinctions in the reservoirs. It is shown that while being similar in general terms the thermal regime of each Moskva reservoir has some specific features of its own. These individual features are most conspicuous in summer and along with the climatic factors they in many ways depend upon exploitation of the reservoir in the previous period of the annual cycle and at the moment of each specific synoptic situation. It has been determined that in the 1980-1990s, compared to the 1970s, the duration of the vegetation period was increasing and the water surface temperature in the reservoirs was permanently rising during the vegetation period by on average 0.4°C per every ten years.
