EVALUATION OF THE MUTUAL INFLUENCE OF WIND-WAVE COMPONENTS ON ENERGY EXCHANGE WITH A WAVE BOUNDARY LAYER

M. Yu. Belevich and I. A. Neelov

An attempt is made to prove the validity of the superposition principle inside the wave boundary layer. With this aim the wave-directed flow over a two-mode wave field is modeled, and a wind-wave interaction parameter is calculated for both modes and compared with the same results for a one-mode surface. A comparison shows that the mutual influence of the wind-wave components on energy exchange with air flow is negligible. The results of the model are used to construct a simple approximation of the wind-wave interaction parameter.
