ASSESSMENT OF TEMPERATURE RISE IN AN ACTIVE LAYER OF THE BLACK SEA FOR 1985—1997

A. Kh. Degterev

Trends of interannual variability of mean monthly water temperature in a 10—100-m layer were calculated from the data bank of the Marine Hydrophysical Institute, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for the open sea area between 42.5—44ºN and 30—37ºE. The dependence of temperature on station coordinates and depth was considered by a multidimensional linear model. The measurement at 3075 stations showed the positive trends of water temperature in spring and the fall and the negative trends in January and June with a 95% significance level. Over ten years water in the 10—50-m layer became on average 0.4ºC warmer in September and 0.9ºC cooler in January. Statistically significant positive temperature trends (up to 0.16ºC per 10 years) were found in the 50—100-m layer for all months, except for January and July. Statistically significant negative trends were not revealed.
