SEASONAL DIFFERENCES IN LONG SERIES OF EUROPEAN SURFACE AIR TEMPERATURE

N. M. Datsenko, D. M. Sonechkin, and M. V. Shabalova

A wavelet analysis of long series of North European surface air temperature has shown that they exhibit linear trends throughout the observation period and very-low-frequency oscillations. In winter it is getting warmer everywhere and in other seasons probably only in the extreme west of Europe. A significant acceleration of global warming with the beginning of the industrial revolution is not found in the series, nor are indications of the specific 60—80-year periodicity. Oscillations of this and similar periods are asynchronous in different seasons.
