PRECIPITATION IN THE RIONI BASIN

The model used at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia for precipitation falling to the mountain basin is adopted for the conditions of the Rioni River basin (western Transcaucasus). The observation data on precipitation in the high-mountain regions are analyzed for their representativity. A regular precipitation increase with terrain height in the basin is established based on water-balance and glacial calculations and estimates. The correction methods for the precipitation total measured within the standard meteorological network are suggested. Just for checking the water supply to the basin surface is calculated. The comparison of calculated and actual runoff hydrographs in the outlet of the village of Alpana for 1950—1960 allows one to use the calculation results in long-term forecasting of the Rioni River runoff.
